Joliet, IL (July 21, 2026) – Several people were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving a stolen car on Monday morning, July 20, at the intersection of Black Road and North Larkin Avenue in Joliet.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene around 11:11 a.m. after a stolen Kia Rio involved in an attempted traffic stop crashed into several vehicles. Officials reported that the 16-year-old driver fled from officers and continued northbound on Larkin Ave.

According to investigators, the Kia entered the intersection against a red light and collided with a Jeep Wrangler driven by a 67-year-old Joliet resident, causing it to roll over. The Kia also struck a Subaru Forester driven by an 80-year-old Glenview man and a GMC Sierra operated by a 74-year-old Joliet man.

The teenage driver suffered minor injuries. A teen female passenger in the Kia sustained life-threatening injuries, while a second teen female passenger suffered serious injuries. The Jeep driver also sustained serious injuries and was removed from the overturned vehicle. The occupants of the Subaru and GMC were not injured.

Following his release from the hospital, the 16-year-old driver was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.

We wish those injured a smooth and complete recovery.

What Is Reviewed After a Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving a Fleeing Vehicle?

Investigators may also review surveillance footage, witness statements, and electronic vehicle data when available. These details can help establish the movements of the vehicles, identify contributing factors, and provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the collision.
