By approximately 9:45 a.m., the far left lane reopened, allowing limited traffic to pass. However, congestion continued to build, with backups stretching to Interstate 71. Motorists were advised to avoid the roadway while cleanup operations continued.

Investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
We extend our thoughts to everyone affected and wish those receiving medical care a smooth recovery.
Why Multi-Vehicle Highway Collisions Can Cause Long Traffic Delays
Collisions involving several vehicles can take longer to clear than those involving only one or two vehicles. Crews may need additional time to remove damaged vehicles, clear debris, document the roadway, and make sure each travel lane is safe before normal traffic resumes.
Heavy traffic can also cause backups to remain long after part of the highway reopens. Vehicles that have been stopped or moving slowly need time to spread out before traffic returns to its usual pace. Drivers approaching these areas are often encouraged to reduce their speed, remain alert, and merge carefully to improve traffic flow and reduce the risk of secondary collisions.
