The Dangers of Impaired Driving
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can significantly affect a person’s judgment, reaction time, coordination, and ability to safely operate a vehicle. Even small impairments can increase the risk of serious collisions, particularly on roadways where multiple vehicles are present.
When a crash is suspected to involve impairment, investigators typically examine witness statements, physical evidence, vehicle damage, toxicology results, and driver behavior before and after the collision. These investigations can take time as authorities work to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
Multi-vehicle crashes result in more extensive injuries and roadway disruptions due to the increased force and complexity of the collision. Law enforcement agencies continue to encourage motorists to make safe transportation arrangements whenever alcohol or impairing substances are involved.
