Sidney, OH (March 17, 2026) – Several people were taken to the hospital after multiple crashes along I-75 in Sidney on Monday evening, March 16.
The first crash was reported around 7:08 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Michigan St. Emergency units arrived to find three semi-trucks involved in a collision. Two people were taken to a nearby hospital following the crash.
A second incident was reported at about 7:44 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the same interstate. This crash involved a semi truck and two cars. No injuries were reported from the second collision.
The cause of the crashes has not been confirmed. However, reports indicated the roadway was slick at the time, which may have affected driving conditions.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
How Road Conditions Can Affect Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Highways
Wet or slippery roads can make it harder for drivers to control their vehicles, especially at highway speeds. When traction is reduced, stopping distances increase, and sudden braking can lead to chain-reaction crashes.
Large vehicles like semi trucks need even more space to slow down. When roads are slick, their weight can make it harder to avoid a collision. If one vehicle loses control, others nearby may not have enough time to react.
Visibility can also play a part, particularly in low-light conditions or during bad weather. Drivers may not notice hazards ahead until it is too late to safely adjust their speed or direction. These factors often combine to increase the risk of multi-vehicle accidents on busy highways.
