Frequently Asked Questions
Does the speed of a vehicle change a pedestrian's chances of survival?
Yes. Lower speeds give drivers more time to stop and reduce the force of impact, which generally means less severe injuries for anyone struck.
Where do pedestrian crashes usually happen?
Many occur in parking lots, at intersections, and along roadways without marked crosswalks, usually where visibility is limited or a driver is backing up or turning.
Should a pedestrian stay at the scene after being hit by a car?
Yes. It's important to call 911, seek medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor, and get the names of witnesses and the vehicle's description or plate number if possible.
