How Single-Vehicle Crashes Are Investigated
Single-vehicle crashes can involve several factors that investigators review to determine what happened. They may examine roadway conditions, vehicle damage, tire marks, and the final position of the vehicle after the crash. Weather, visibility, and driver actions may also be considered during the review.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway and strikes an object, the impact location and damage pattern can provide clues about the crash. Investigators may use this information along with witness accounts and other available evidence to better understand the events before the collision.
