Firestone, CO (May 28, 2026) – Six people were injured Wednesday in a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and East Interstate 25 Frontage Road in Firestone. Police said one of the vehicles involved was a semitrailer.
According to investigators, a pickup truck traveling southbound turned in front of a northbound semitrailer on the frontage road. The semitrailer then struck a third vehicle that was turning onto the frontage road from Firestone Boulevard. Six people were taken to hospitals following the collision, and some were reported to have serious injuries.
The intersection remained closed for several hours while crews worked on the roadway and gathered evidence. The names of those involved were not released.
Police are continuing to examine the circumstances that led to the wreck. We are thinking of those hurt and wish them a full recovery.
Why Turning Movements Are a Common Factor in Multi-Vehicle Crashes
Intersections are among the most complex parts of any roadway because drivers must monitor traffic from several directions at once. Turning movements can increase the risk of a collision when a driver misjudges the speed or distance of an approaching vehicle.
Crashes involving semitrailers may be especially severe due to the size and weight of these trucks. When a large truck cannot stop in time, the impact force can affect multiple vehicles. Investigators often review vehicle paths, traffic controls, visibility, and driver actions when examining intersection collisions. These factors can help explain how an initial contact between two vehicles develops into a larger chain-reaction crash involving additional motorists.
