What Investigators Commonly Review After Intersection Crashes
Intersection crashes are often reviewed by examining traffic control devices, vehicle approach direction, and right-of-way movement. Stop signs and controlled crossings are especially important when determining how vehicles entered the intersection before contact occurred.
Investigators may analyze skid marks, debris placement, and vehicle damage to reconstruct the sequence of movement. Visibility, traffic speed, and roadway layout can also influence how quickly drivers are able to react when crossing or turning through an intersection.
When several people are hospitalized, investigators often document seating positions and restraint use to better understand injury patterns. Witness accounts and roadway evidence may help clarify how both vehicles reached the same point at the same time.
