Frequently Asked Questions
What should a rider do immediately after a motorcycle crash?
If possible, move to a safe area away from traffic, call 911, and avoid removing a helmet or moving an injured person unless there's an immediate danger. Get checked by medical personnel even if injuries seem minor, since some, like internal injuries or concussions, aren't obvious right away.
Do motorcycle crashes happen more commonly at intersections?
Left-turn crashes, like a vehicle turning across a rider's path, are one of the most common ways motorcycle crashes happen. Drivers pulling out of parking lots or turning left usually misjudge a motorcycle's speed or don't see it at all.
Does road surface affect how risky a motorcycle crash is?
Yes. Loose gravel, wet pavement, potholes, and uneven lane markings all reduce a motorcycle's traction more than they would a car's, and riders have far less stability to recover from a skid or sudden swerve.
What gear actually helps reduce injuries for riders?
A DOT-approved helmet, abrasion-resistant jacket and pants, gloves, and over-the-ankle boots all help reduce the severity of injuries in a crash. None of it prevents a crash, but it can mean the difference between road rash and a more serious injury.
What to Do After a Motorcycle Crash in Sneads Ferry, NC
Anyone who witnesses or is involved in a motorcycle crash in Sneads Ferry should call 911 right away and wait for law enforcement to arrive and document the scene. Take photos if it's safe to do so, and get contact information from any witnesses nearby.
Even riders who feel fine after a crash should see a doctor, since adrenaline can mask pain from fractures or soft-tissue injuries. Keep copies of any medical records, repair estimates, and the official crash report, as these will matter for insurance claims. Giving yourself time to recover, physically and otherwise, is just as important as handling the paperwork.
