SOUTH CHARLESTON, Kanawha County, W.Va., Sept. 22, 2026 — A 12-year-old boy died on Monday, September 21, after he was struck by a vehicle on MacCorkle Avenue at Rock Lake Drive in South Charleston, West Virginia.
The South Charleston Police Department said the child, identified by Kanawha County Schools as Hunter Allen Combs of South Charleston, was hit while on MacCorkle Avenue near the Rock Lake Drive intersection. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.
Combs was a sixth grader at Dunbar Middle School, according to the school system.
Police reviewed surveillance footage from the area and said they found no evidence that the driver broke any traffic laws. The Kanawha County Sheriff's Office assisted with scene reconstruction while South Charleston police led the preliminary investigation, which remains open.
