Why Overnight Crashes on Major Routes Can Be So Severe
Major roadways like Route 9 carry steady traffic even during late-night and early-morning hours. Reduced visibility, fatigue, and lower traffic volumes can sometimes lead drivers to travel at higher speeds. These factors may increase the risk of serious collisions.
At night, depth perception and reaction time can be affected. Headlights from oncoming vehicles and dark stretches of road may make it harder to judge distance. When two vehicles collide head-on or at high speed, the impact can be life-threatening.
Drivers traveling overnight are encouraged to stay alert, avoid distractions, and take breaks if feeling tired. Maintaining a safe speed and remaining attentive can help reduce the risk of severe crashes during early morning hours.
