Spanish Fork Canyon, UT (May 6, 2026) – US 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon was shut down in both directions Wednesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash involving three semi-trucks and a passenger vehicle. The closure stretched between the US-89 Junction and Soldier Summit.
Emergency units responded after reports that a westbound semi-truck crossed the center line and struck two eastbound semi-trucks, along with a passenger vehicle. The impact caused significant damage and blocked the roadway in both directions.
Two drivers were transported to a hospital with moderate injuries. Additional details about the occupants of the passenger vehicle and their condition have not been released.
Crews worked for an extended period to separate the involved semi-trucks, clear debris, and reopen the highway. Traffic was heavily impacted in the area during the closure.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
Why Center-Line Crossovers Often Lead to Severe Highway Crashes
Crashes involving a vehicle crossing the centerline are especially dangerous on rural highways, where opposing traffic may be traveling at high speeds. These incidents can quickly involve multiple vehicles due to limited time to react.
Commercial trucks increase the severity of impacts because of their size and weight, often leading to prolonged roadway blockages and complex recovery efforts.
Roadway design, driver fatigue, and sudden steering inputs are commonly reviewed in these types of crashes. Investigators typically analyze vehicle paths and roadway conditions to determine how the collision occurred.
