What Information Is Often Collected After a Fatal Head-On Crash?
Head-on crashes are among the most serious roadway accidents because both vehicles are often traveling at significant speeds before impact. Investigators usually begin by reviewing vehicle positions, roadway markings, and the point of collision to determine how the crash occurred.
Traffic conditions, visibility, and road design may also be examined. In some cases, investigators look at whether either vehicle crossed the center line or lost control before impact. Damage to the vehicles can help show the angle and force of the collision.
When multiple fatalities are involved, officials also work to confirm victim identities and notify family members before releasing names publicly. Medical reports, witness statements, and electronic vehicle data may later provide more detail about the events leading up to the crash.
