Bensalem, PA (June 3, 2026) – One person died, and two others were taken to the hospital after a multi-vehicle collision on Tuesday afternoon in Bensalem.
The collision occurred at about 4:45 p.m. at East Bristol Road and Brownsville roads. Police said a Toyota RAV4 was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed after a reported domestic-related incident earlier in Lower Southampton Township.
Investigators said the Toyota crossed into oncoming traffic while attempting to pass a Hyundai Kona. The SUV then became airborne, struck a Honda SUV and a Ford pickup truck, and rolled over. The driver of the Toyota died as a result of the collision.
The driver of the Hyundai Kona left the roadway and came to rest after striking a fence on Bristol Road. Two other people were taken to the hospital with injuries. Police said it is not yet clear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
The investigation remains ongoing as detectives review all contributing factors. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the person who died.
What Investigators Often Review After a Multi-Vehicle Highway Collision
When several vehicles are involved in a roadway event, investigators typically work to reconstruct how each vehicle moved in the moments before contact. This includes examining speed patterns, lane usage, and driver decisions that may have contributed to the sequence of movements.
Physical evidence, such as vehicle damage, debris spread, and final resting positions, helps establish how the vehicles interacted. Witness accounts can also provide key details about driving behavior leading up to the event.
Electronic data systems in newer vehicles may supply additional insight into braking and acceleration. Roadway design and traffic flow patterns are also reviewed to determine how conditions may have influenced driver reactions. By combining these elements, investigators can form a clearer picture of how a complex multi-vehicle situation developed.
