Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to help keep pedestrians safe in parking lots and roadways?
Slowing down in areas where people are loading, unloading, or working near vehicles, checking mirrors and blind spots before moving, and staying alert in tow and loading zones can help prevent these kinds of injuries.
What injuries commonly result from a vehicle striking a pedestrian's foot or leg?
Even at low speeds, pedestrians can suffer broken bones, crush injuries, torn ligaments, and nerve damage in the foot and ankle. Medical evaluation is recommended even when injuries initially seem minor.
What typically causes these kinds of pedestrian accidents?
Distraction, limited visibility, misjudged distances, and drivers failing to notice someone on foot near a vehicle are common factors in low-speed pedestrian crashes like this one.
Does vehicle speed matter in a pedestrian crash like this?
Yes. Lower speeds generally mean less severe injuries, but even slow-moving vehicles can cause serious harm to a foot or ankle caught underneath a tire.
What to Do After a Pedestrian Accident in Spring, TX
If you're involved in or witness a pedestrian accident, you should call 911 right away so that EMS and law enforcement can respond. Even if injuries seem minor at first, a medical evaluation is a good idea, since foot and ankle injuries can worsen or reveal fractures not obvious at the scene. If possible, try to note details about the vehicle involved, such as color, make, or license plate, along with the direction it fled. Witnesses should remain at the scene to speak with deputies, since those accounts can be critical in hit-and-run investigations. Residents in Spring can also reach out to Precinct 4 with any tips or video footage that might help identify the driver.
