Common Causes and Risks in Multi-Vehicle Collisions on Highways
Crashes involving multiple vehicles often occur when drivers fail to maintain safe distances or are unable to react quickly to slowing traffic. Highway intersections or areas with varying vehicle sizes, such as compact cars, pickups, and large trucks, can increase the severity of impacts.
Larger vehicles, like dump trucks, carry more mass, which can result in greater force during a collision. Occupants of smaller vehicles are at higher risk of serious injury or death. Timely medical response and seat belt use can influence survival and injury outcomes, but multi-vehicle crashes on highways remain particularly dangerous due to speed, momentum, and the variety of vehicles involved.
