Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving a common factor in intersection crashes?
Even a few seconds of looking away from the road, at a phone, a passenger, or something outside the vehicle, can be enough to miss a turning or crossing vehicle, especially at busy intersections.
How do visibility and road conditions play into turning collisions like this one?
Glare, weather, and obstructed sightlines can make it harder for a turning driver to see smaller or slower-moving vehicles, including golf carts, bicycles, and motorcycles sharing the roadway.
What should someone do right after being involved in a crash?
Call 911, move to a safe location if possible, seek medical evaluation even for injuries that seem minor, and exchange information with the other driver while waiting for officers to arrive and document the scene.
Where do most traffic crashes tend to occur?
A large share happen at or near intersections, where turning, crossing, and merging vehicles are more likely to conflict with one another.
