What Drivers Should Know About Sharing SR-237 With Large Commercial Vehicles in Sunnyvale
SR-237 is a heavily traveled commuter corridor cutting through the heart of Silicon Valley, connecting communities like Sunnyvale and Milpitas while also serving a significant volume of commercial traffic. Garbage trucks, delivery vehicles, and other large commercial units share the road with passenger cars throughout the day, creating situations where speed and size differences between vehicles become a real concern.
Large trucks take considerably longer to slow down or stop compared to passenger vehicles, and their blind spots are much wider than most drivers realize. A vehicle that lingers in those blind zones, particularly near the front corners of a truck, may not be visible to the driver even at close range.
Crashes involving commercial vehicles on busy freeways like SR-237 can result in serious damage to smaller cars, even at moderate speeds. Maintaining a safe following distance and avoiding extended travel alongside large trucks are among the most effective habits for staying safe on this stretch of roadway.
