How Investigators Examine Fatal Highway Wrecks
When a fatal roadway wreck occurs, investigators typically review several types of evidence to determine what happened. Physical evidence from the roadway, vehicle positions, and damage patterns can help establish how the vehicles came into contact.
Witness accounts may also be reviewed alongside photographs, video footage, and measurements taken after the incident. In some cases, weather conditions, lighting, traffic flow, and roadway design are examined to provide additional context.
Vehicle inspections can reveal whether mechanical problems contributed to the outcome. Medical findings may also help clarify the extent of injuries and the sequence of events. Because each fatal traffic case involves many factors, a complete review often takes time before a final determination is reached.
