Santa Clarita, CA (August 16, 2026) – A sedan and a tanker truck carrying fuel were involved in an injury crash early Friday morning, August 14, on northbound SR-14 near Escondido Canyon Road. Authorities received the initial report shortly after 3:19 a.m.
According to the California Highway Patrol incident log, the sedan was a blue Infiniti Q50 that became lodged beneath or against the tanker. Both drivers were reported to be on the roadside following the crash. The tanker’s rear axle was broken, and an oil spill covered much of the roadway except the No. 1 lane.
Crews were requested to apply absorbent material and clean the roadway, while a heavy-duty tow truck was called to remove the tanker. The crash resulted in closures of the No. 2, 3, and 4 northbound lanes for an estimated three hours. Our thoughts are with those affected by the crash.
What Hazards Can Follow a Crash Involving a Fuel Tanker?
A collision involving a fuel tanker can create additional roadway hazards beyond the initial impact. Spilled oil or fuel may make pavement slippery and require crews to apply absorbent material before traffic can safely resume.
Large commercial vehicles can also require specialized towing equipment when they sustain damage to an axle or become involved in a collision. Emergency crews may secure the area, inspect the vehicles, and address fire risks before damaged vehicles are moved. Lane closures can remain in place while spills are cleaned and the roadway is checked for additional hazards.
