The 13-year-old was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was listed in critical condition. The driver of the Ford remained at the scene after the collision.
The crash remains under investigation as police continue gathering information. We hope the injured teen receives strong care and support during recovery.
Why Bicycle Accidents Involving Teens Can Be Severe
Bicycle accidents can cause serious injuries because riders have little protection when they are hit by a vehicle. A teen may be thrown from the bicycle or land hard on the road after contact. Injuries may affect the head, chest, spine, arms, legs, or internal organs.
Intersections can also create added risk because drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians may all be moving through the same space. Traffic signals, vehicle speed, visibility, lane position, and crossing direction can affect how much time people have to react. Investigators may review witness statements, vehicle damage, camera footage, and roadway markings to understand how the collision happened.
