Teen Pedestrians Face Serious Risks in Nighttime Crashes
Pedestrian crashes at night can be especially dangerous because visibility may be limited. Drivers may have less time to see someone crossing or standing near the roadway, even at an intersection.
Teen pedestrians can suffer serious injuries when struck by a vehicle because there is no protection from the force of impact. Head trauma, broken bones, and internal injuries may not be fully clear until after medical evaluation.
Hit-and-run crashes can also delay key details in the first report. Early updates may include where the pedestrian was found, whether hospital care was needed, and if the driver left the area. Later information may clarify vehicle direction, lighting, crosswalk use, and whether witnesses helped identify the vehicle involved.
