Paramus, NJ (June 11, 2026) – A 15-year-old boy was injured after his e-bike collided with a vehicle in Paramus on Tuesday evening, June 9. The crash occurred at approximately 6:05 p.m. at the intersection of W Ridgewood Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard.

Police said a 50-year-old man from Ridgewood was driving a gray Tesla westbound on W Ridgewood Avenue when he made a left turn onto Roosevelt Boulevard. The e-bike rider, traveling on the sidewalk, entered the crosswalk and collided with the turning vehicle.

The teen was taken to The New Valley Hospital in Paramus for treatment of a wrist injury described as moderate. The Tesla driver remained at the crash site and cooperated with investigators. No summonses had been issued as of Tuesday night.

The e-bike was impounded as part of the investigation. Further details about the collision were not immediately released.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under review. We are thinking of the injured teen and wish him a smooth recovery.

Why E-Bike and Vehicle Collisions Usually Occur at Intersections

E-bike crashes involving turning vehicles frequently occur at intersections where multiple traffic movements overlap. Drivers making turns must account for both roadway traffic and crosswalk activity, while riders may approach from sidewalks or bike lanes.

Differences in speed and visibility can increase the risk of conflict, especially when riders transition from sidewalks into crossing zones. Drivers may have limited time to react if an e-bike enters a crosswalk unexpectedly.

Investigators typically review signal timing, vehicle turning paths, and rider positioning to understand how these collisions develop. These details help clarify whether right-of-way rules and visibility factors played a role in the crash sequence.
