Why Side-by-Side Crashes at Intersections Can Be Especially Dangerous
Side-by-side vehicles are commonly used for recreation and work in rural communities, but they can face serious risks when crossing larger highways or busy roads. These vehicles are usually lighter and less protected than passenger cars, which may increase the severity of injuries during a traffic crash.
Intersections are also one of the most common places for serious roadway collisions. Drivers and riders must judge traffic speed, distance, and right-of-way in a short amount of time. Reduced visibility, distraction, or miscalculating another vehicle’s approach can quickly lead to a dangerous situation. In many cases, investigators review vehicle positions, roadway markings, and witness statements to better understand how the crash unfolded and whether visibility or timing may have contributed.
