Shively, KY (June 16, 2026) – A teenage girl died and two other teenage girls were injured after a pedestrian crash on Dixie Highway in Shively.

Police were called to the 3900 block of Dixie Highway after receiving reports that pedestrians had been struck. When officers arrived, they found three teenage girls who had been involved in the collision.

One of the girls was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two teens were taken to a hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening, according to police.

The identities of the girls had not been released. Traffic was affected along Dixie Highway between Park Road and Nobel Place while investigators examined the roadway and gathered evidence.

The fatal collision remains under investigation as officials work to determine exactly what happened. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the teen who died.

Why Pedestrian Crashes on Busy Roadways Can Be Serious?

Pedestrian crashes can result in severe outcomes because people on foot have little protection when interacting with vehicle traffic. On busy roads, multiple factors can affect safety, including traffic volume, vehicle speeds, lighting, and the availability of crossing points.

Investigators often review roadway conditions, visibility, driver actions, and pedestrian movements to better understand how a collision occurred. Areas with frequent foot traffic may benefit from features such as improved lighting, marked crossings, traffic signals, and other safety measures designed to help separate vehicles from pedestrians. While each case is unique, roadway design and visibility are often among the factors considered when evaluating pedestrian safety on major corridors.
