Phoenix, AZ (August 24, 2026) – A 14-year-old boy was seriously hurt after a vehicle struck him while he was walking in a crosswalk near 35th and Dunlap avenues.

The pedestrian crash happened on Saturday, August 22, at about 7:30 p.m. Emergency units went to the area after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

Witnesses said a vehicle driven by an unidentified man was traveling south on 35th Avenue in the curb lane when it struck the teen. The boy was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver remained at the location and was not hurt. The police said impairment does not appear to have contributed to the accident.

The driver was cited and released for traffic violations. The investigation into what led to the crash remains underway.

Our thoughts are with the teen and his loved ones during his recovery.

What Happens When a Pedestrian Is Hurt in a Traffic Accident?

Pedestrian accidents can result in serious harm because people walking have little protection from moving vehicles. The severity of an injury can depend on factors such as vehicle speed, the point of contact, and whether the person was inside a marked crossing.

Crosswalks are designed to give pedestrians a designated path across traffic, but drivers still need to watch for people on foot and follow traffic signals and signs. Poor visibility, distractions, and heavy traffic can make crossings more difficult.

After a pedestrian accident, medical records can help document the extent of the harm. Photos, witness accounts, traffic signals, vehicle damage, and roadway conditions may also provide useful information about what happened.
