What Factors Can Contribute to Multi-Vehicle Crashes at Intersections?
Intersections are common locations for multi-vehicle crashes because they bring together traffic traveling in different directions. A single mistake, such as failing to yield, misjudging another vehicle’s speed, or following too closely, can quickly involve several vehicles.
When multiple cars are part of the same roadway collision, the risk of injury may increase because occupants can be exposed to more than one point of contact. Traffic volume, visibility, weather, and signal timing can also influence how these crashes unfold.
In the hours after a serious intersection crash, investigators often review vehicle positions, roadway markings, witness statements, and physical evidence. Medical reports may also help clarify the severity of injuries. As more information becomes available, a clearer picture can emerge regarding the sequence of actions that contributed to the collision.
