Electric Scooter and Car Turning Risks on City Streets
Electric scooters share roadways with cars, especially in busy downtown streets. Because they are small and quiet, riders can be harder for drivers to notice during turns or parking maneuvers. Many close calls happen when a driver shifts direction while a scooter is moving in the same direction nearby. Limited visibility and tight spaces near parking spots can increase risk for people using scooters or bicycles.
Local traffic patterns often require drivers to check mirrors and blind spots carefully before changing direction. Riders are also encouraged to stay alert and maintain predictable movement to reduce confusion. Even at lower speeds, quick decisions from either side can lead to dangerous outcomes. Awareness from both drivers and riders helps reduce the chance of harm on shared streets.
