The police said the two-vehicle accident happened around 3:27 p.m. near West Orangethorpe Avenue and South Gilbert Street. A preliminary review found that a man riding a brown Honda Navi motorcycle was traveling east through the intersection while a Tesla Cybertruck headed west attempted to turn south onto Gilbert Street.
Investigators said the motorcycle hit the side of the Tesla during the turn. Emergency units arrived shortly afterward and took the rider to a nearby hospital, where the person later died.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of relatives. Investigators also said it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the collision; the circumstances surrounding the wreck are still being reviewed by investigators.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the rider’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
How Turning Collisions at Intersections Are Commonly Reviewed
Collisions involving turning vehicles and motorcycles usually require a detailed review of traffic movement and visibility. Investigators may examine whether each driver had a clear line of sight, how quickly the vehicles were moving, and whether traffic signals or turn timing affected the moments leading up to the roadway impact.
Motorcycles can be harder for turning drivers to spot, especially at busy intersections with several lanes or heavy afternoon traffic. Vehicle placement, skid marks, and damage patterns may help show how the vehicles came together. Video footage from nearby businesses or traffic cameras can also provide added context.
In many cases, roadway lighting, weather, and driver attention are reviewed alongside witness statements. Medical findings and vehicle data systems may also help clarify the sequence of actions before contact occurred.
