Union Co., MS (August 20, 2026) – Three people were airlifted to a hospital on Tuesday morning, August 18, after a two-vehicle crash on Highway 30 in Union County.
Firefighters had to extract three people from the vehicles involved in the Highway 30 crash. Medics then flew all three patients to the hospital. Authorities are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash.
We hope all three injured people make a full recovery.
Why Can Two-Vehicle Crashes Require Air Medical Transport?
Some collisions cause injuries serious enough that patients need rapid access to a trauma center. A medical helicopter can shorten travel time when specialized treatment is far from the crash site.
Extrication can also signal that occupants were trapped or difficult to remove safely from damaged vehicles. That process may delay ground transport while crews carefully free patients.
Impact force, vehicle deformation, seating position, and the type of injuries involved can all affect whether air transport is used. Medical teams may consider it when patients have severe head, chest, spinal, or internal trauma that requires urgent hospital care.
