Salem Township, OH (June 3, 2026) – Three people were left in critical condition after a crash at the intersection of OH-45 and Teegarden Road in Salem Township early on Wednesday, June 3. The collision was reported around 1 a.m.

Two of those hurt were airlifted to Mercy Health Hospital in Youngstown, and a third person was taken there by ambulance. All three arrived at the hospital in critical condition.

Emergency units from multiple departments responded to the intersection. How the accident unfolded had not been determined as of the initial report, and no names were released.

Investigators are still working to establish the cause, and further details will be made public as they become available. We are thinking of the three people hurt and sincerely hope for their recovery.

What Happens After a Multi-Person Critical Injury Crash in Ohio

When multiple people are critically hurt in a single crash, the response typically involves coordination across several agencies and medical facilities. Helicopter transport is often used when ground travel would take too long or when a patient’s condition requires specialized trauma care available only at certain hospitals. Mercy Health’s Youngstown campus is a regional trauma center equipped to handle severe injuries from high-impact road crashes.

Critical injury cases tend to generate more thorough documentation than standard crashes, since the severity of harm often triggers additional review steps. Investigators may reconstruct the sequence of events using physical evidence from the road, vehicle data, and witness accounts. That process can take days or even weeks before a complete picture emerges.

Ohio law requires that serious crashes on state routes be investigated by the state highway patrol. Reports from those investigations are typically made available to the public once the review is complete.
