Twin Bridges, ID (June 4, 2026) – Three people were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon following a head-on collision on 4700 East near the south side of the Snake River Bridge. A 51-year-old woman from Twin Falls was critically hurt when her gold 2005 Chevy Uplander crossed into the northbound lane and struck a blue Volkswagen Passat.

The Passat was occupied by an 18-year-old male driver and a 15-year-old male passenger, both from Rexburg. Both were taken to a local hospital, though their injuries have not been confirmed. The roadway remained closed for several hours while emergency units worked at the scene. No additional information about those involved has been released. Investigators continue to examine the cause of the collision.

Our thoughts are with the injured as they receive medical care.

How Head-On Collisions Can Affect Highway Safety

Head-on collisions are among the most serious types of crashes, frequently resulting in severe injuries due to the combined speed of the vehicles involved. These collisions frequently occur when a driver enters the wrong lane, becomes distracted, or loses control of the vehicle.

Seat belts and airbags are vital for reducing harm, but passengers remain at risk for serious trauma, particularly in smaller vehicles; road design, visibility, and weather conditions can also influence the likelihood of a head-on crash. Understanding these factors highlights the importance of staying alert and maintaining safe lane discipline while driving on highways and bridges.
