Opp, AL (July 29, 2026) – A helicopter accident near Cool Springs Rd by the Opp Bypass left an instructor and two student pilots injured on Monday, July 27. The helicopter went down in a privately owned field during a flight training exercise.
According to Fort Rucker officials, the three people aboard the UH-72 Lakota were conducting training when the helicopter went down. Emergency units took all three to Southeast Health in Dothan, where their injuries were reported as not life-threatening.
The aircraft sustained extensive damage in the wreck. The names of those involved were not released in the initial report.
