What Is Often Reviewed After a Crash Involving an Emergency Vehicle?
When a collision involves an emergency vehicle, investigators typically examine several factors to determine how the roadway encounter occurred. This can include vehicle travel directions, traffic controls, visibility, and each driver’s actions in the moments before contact.
Emergency vehicles operating with their lights activated may receive certain traffic privileges under specific circumstances, but other motorists are still expected to respond appropriately when they see or hear an approaching emergency vehicle. Determining exactly what each driver could see and when they became aware of one another is often part of the review process.
Physical evidence such as vehicle damage, roadway markings, and witness statements can help establish a timeline. Investigators may also examine any available video footage or electronic vehicle data to gain a clearer understanding of the sequence of events that led to the crash.
