The Police said a truck driven by a 19-year-old Nebo man pulled from Poole Mill Road into the path of a tractor operated by a 32-year-old Crofton woman. The impact caused the tractor to overturn on the roadway.
Two children under the age of two, identified as Autumn Graber and Ava Graber, were inside the tractor at the time of the collision. Both children were flown to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, due to serious injuries. The tractor operator was also taken by ambulance to the same hospital for treatment.
Officials said the tractor caught fire after the crash, but witnesses and deputies were able to extinguish the flames using a fire extinguisher before further damage occurred. Further details about the crash had not been released as of Tuesday, May 26.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing. We extend our thoughts to the children and their families during this difficult time.
Why Tractor and Farm Vehicle Crashes Can Be Severe
Collisions involving tractors and other farm equipment can be particularly serious due to the size and stability of the machinery. Tractors often have a higher center of gravity, which increases the risk of overturning during impacts or sudden maneuvers.
These vehicles also tend to travel at slower speeds, which can create dangerous speed differences when they enter or cross roadways used by faster-moving traffic. In rural areas, visibility, road access points, and timing all play a role in how these crashes occur. After such incidents, investigators typically examine roadway entry points, vehicle positioning, and damage patterns to understand how the collision developed.
