Brooklyn, NY (August 27, 2026) – Three teenagers were killed, and four others were hospitalized after a two-car collision on Tuesday night on the Belt Pkwy near Exit 1 in Bay Ridge.

Authorities received a call around 11:35 p.m. about the collision at Belt Pkwy and 65th St. Police sources said a black Cadillac was traveling eastbound at a high speed when its driver braked behind a slower vehicle. A Honda carrying two women then struck the rear of the Cadillac.

The Cadillac hit a guardrail, spun and overturned, ejecting three of its five occupants. The three teenagers were not wearing seat belts and died in the collision. They were identified as Huzayfah Algaheim, 18, Konstantin Gerantidi, 17, and Rehman Abdul, 16.

The Cadillac’s other two passengers, ages 16 and 18, were stable at a hospital. The 46-year-old Honda driver and 44-year-old passenger were also hospitalized in stable condition.

The roadway was partially closed following the wreck but has since reopened. No arrests have been reported, and the investigation remains active.

Our heartfelt condolences go to the families and friends mourning the three teenagers.

How Can Seat Belts Help During an Overturning Collision?

Seat belts help keep vehicle occupants secured inside the passenger compartment during sudden movements. Without a restraint, a person can be thrown from the vehicle when it rolls, spins, or overturns.

Ejection from a vehicle can greatly increase the risk of severe or fatal injuries. Seat belts are designed to work with other vehicle safety features, including airbags and reinforced passenger compartments.

Every occupant should use a properly fitted seat belt, regardless of where they are sitting. Younger passengers should also use age- and size-appropriate restraints. Remaining properly secured can provide added protection during many types of roadway collisions.
