Cupertino, CA (August 6, 2026) – One person was injured in a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 280 South near the Wolfe Road off-ramp in Cupertino on Thursday, August 6.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the collision was reported at approximately 3:11 p.m. Initial dispatch information indicated a white Honda Accord collided with two other vehicles, later identified as a gold Toyota Corolla and a tan Lexus. One of the involved parties in the Lexus was reported to be uninjured. The crash blocked lanes 1 and 2 of southbound I-280, prompting an emergency response. Authorities later classified the incident as a three-vehicle injury collision, and tow trucks were requested for the Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla due to significant damage.

Officials have not released additional information about the injured person or the cause of the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.

We are thinking of the injured individual and wish them a full and speedy recovery.

How Do Investigators Examine Multi-Vehicle Freeway Collisions?

Crashes involving several vehicles on high-speed freeways require investigators to carefully document the position of each vehicle, damage patterns, skid marks, and debris to determine the sequence of impacts. This information helps reconstruct how the collision developed.

When travel lanes are blocked, emergency responders focus on assisting injured occupants, protecting the scene from secondary crashes, and restoring the safe flow of traffic. Damaged vehicles are removed only after investigators have collected the evidence needed for their investigation.

Investigators may also review witness statements, roadway conditions, and any available video or electronic vehicle data to identify contributing factors. The investigation continues until authorities have established a clear understanding of the events leading up to the crash.
