Frequently Asked Questions
What typically causes crashes at rural intersections like this one?
Failing to stop at a posted stop sign, misjudging the speed of crossing traffic, and limited visibility at rural crossroads are common factors in intersection crashes.
Why does speed make intersection crashes more severe?
A vehicle traveling faster covers more distance before a driver can react, and it hits with more force. Even modest increases in speed can turn a survivable crash into a fatal one.
How much does distraction add to the risk at an intersection?
A driver looking at a phone, adjusting controls, or simply not watching the road can miss a stop sign entirely or enter an intersection without seeing oncoming traffic until it's too late to stop.
What to Do After an Intersection Crash in Town of Center, Wisconsin
Call 911 immediately and stay as still as possible until emergency crews arrive, especially if you feel any pain or disorientation. Even if injuries seem minor at first, adrenaline can mask pain from head, neck, or internal injuries, so a medical evaluation afterward is worth it. If you're able, note what you remember about the intersection, signals, and other vehicles involved, since those details can fade quickly. Cooperate with responding deputies and get a copy of the official report once it's available. Reach out to family or a trusted friend for support in the hours and days that follow; recovering from a serious crash takes time, physically and emotionally.
