Augusta Co., VA (July 29, 2026) – A tractor-trailer driver was injured Tuesday, July 28, in a two-truck collision on southbound Interstate 81. The crash occurred around 7:00 a.m. near mile marker 232.
A tractor-trailer was disabled on the right shoulder with warning triangles placed behind it. A second rig was moving from the left lane toward the right when it entered the shoulder and struck the rear tandem axle of the parked truck.
After the impact, the moving tractor-trailer left the pavement and overturned among several trees. Its driver was taken to Augusta Health with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The operator of the disabled truck was not hurt.
Investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the wreck, and charges remained pending. We hope the injured driver receives attentive care and has a smooth recovery.
How Can Tractor-Trailer Crashes Lead to Rollovers?
Tractor-trailers have a high center of gravity and carry much of their weight above the road. A sudden steering movement or contact near the wheels can shift that weight quickly and make the trailer unstable.
