TRACY, San Joaquin County, Calif., Nov. 2, 2026 — A pickup truck and a semi truck collided on Saturday evening, October 31, on westbound I-580 near the Mountain House Parkway off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash was reported just west of Patterson Pass Road.
The California Highway Patrol's traffic log describes a Toyota pickup colliding with a big rig, with the pickup coming to rest on the right shoulder. One occupant of the pickup, described in the report as a dark-colored SUV in early log entries, was reportedly out of the vehicle and walking and talking at the scene, with a possible broken nose and some bleeding. The person who called in the crash reported they were unsure of that occupant's condition immediately afterward. CHP's log classified the crash as a minor-injury collision.
Stockton Fire Department personnel responded to the scene, and a tow truck was requested to remove the vehicles. Crews worked to clear the number one and two lanes after moving the pickup to the shoulder. CHP reported that a crash attenuator on the south side of the westbound lanes, roughly 25 feet long, sustained damage severe enough to require full replacement.
Westbound lanes were briefly affected before being reopened on Saturday night. The circumstances that led to the collision have not been released, and the California Highway Patrol has not said whether speed or any other factor contributed.
We hope those who were hurt recover fully and quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions
What can drivers do to stay safer on freeways like I-580?
Keeping a safe following distance, staying alert near on-ramps and off-ramps, and reducing speed in heavy traffic or construction zones can help drivers react in time to avoid a collision.
What injuries commonly result from crashes involving large trucks?
Collisions between passenger vehicles and semi trucks frequently cause facial injuries, cuts, and blunt trauma due to the size and weight difference between the vehicles.
What usually causes two-vehicle crashes on highways?
Common causes include distracted driving, following too closely, unsafe lane changes, and misjudging the speed or position of nearby vehicles, especially near ramps and lane merges.
Does speed affect how severe a crash turns out to be?
Yes. Higher speeds give drivers less time to react and increase the force of impact, which can make injuries more severe and property damage more extensive.
