Oak Grove, KY (August 6, 2026) – A tractor-trailer driver suffered serious injuries after two semi-trucks collided in stopped traffic on Interstate 24 eastbound near Oak Grove on Wednesday, August 5.

According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 1:10 p.m. near mile marker 77 in Christian County when one tractor-trailer rear-ended another that had already stopped on the interstate. Emergency crews responded to the scene and worked to free the trapped driver from the wreckage. After being extricated, the driver was airlifted to a hospital in Nashville for treatment of serious injuries.

The crash caused significant traffic disruptions, with eastbound lanes experiencing intermittent closures while investigators documented the scene and crews cleared the damaged vehicles. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet redirected traffic onto U.S. 68 and U.S. 41A to help ease congestion. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

We are thinking of the injured driver and wish them a full recovery.

Why Are Rear-End Tractor-Trailers Crashes So Severe?

Collisions involving large commercial trucks result in extensive damage because of the vehicles’ size and weight. When traffic comes to an unexpected stop on an interstate, truck drivers may have limited distance to slow down safely, increasing the risk of serious rear-end crashes.

Investigators typically examine braking evidence, vehicle damage, traffic conditions, and driver statements to determine how the collision occurred. They may also inspect the trucks for mechanical issues and review electronic logging and onboard data when available.

When a crash involving heavy trucks and serious injuries occurs, interstate lanes may remain closed for an extended period while emergency responders rescue those involved, investigators document the scene, and specialized equipment removes the damaged vehicles. These efforts help ensure a thorough investigation and restore safe travel conditions.
