TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP, Monroe County, Pa., Oct. 8, 2026 — Two people were hurt Tuesday morning, October 6, in a two-vehicle crash at Route 115 and Allegheny Drive in the Blakeslee section of Tunkhannock Township.
The crash was reported around 11:16 a.m. and brought a response from Pocono Mountain Regional Police, Station 42, and two EMS units. A minivan and a sedan were involved, based on the tow request radioed from the scene.
Responders initially treated one patient before radio traffic indicated a second person needed care. We hope everyone who was hurt makes a full and speedy recovery.
When Two-Vehicle Crashes Happen on Roads Like Route 115
Crashes at rural intersections usually cluster around the times when traffic moves fastest, and attention is easiest to lose: the late morning and early afternoon hours when commercial and commuter traffic mix with local drivers turning on and off side roads. Midday glare, a driver glancing at a phone, or a vehicle slowing to turn can turn a routine intersection into a collision point in seconds.
Weekday mornings carry their own risks because drivers are usually rushing to work or appointments and may misjudge a gap in traffic at a cross street. Two-vehicle crashes at intersections like Allegheny Drive frequently involve one vehicle turning or crossing against oncoming traffic, which raises the chance of a side-impact or head-on collision rather than a simple rear-end.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 365 large-truck occupants were killed in multi-vehicle crashes involving large trucks in 2023. While not every intersection crash involves a commercial vehicle, the data shows how multi-vehicle collisions at road junctions can escalate quickly when speed, visibility, and timing line up against a driver.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is distracted driving a factor in so many crashes?
Even a few seconds of looking away from the road, at a phone, a passenger, or a dashboard screen, can mean missing a stopped vehicle, a changing signal, or another car entering an intersection.
How do weather and road surface conditions play a role?
Rain, fog or debris on the roadway can reduce traction and visibility, making it harder for drivers to stop in time or judge the speed of an approaching vehicle, especially at intersections where cross-traffic is present.
What should I do right after a car accident?
Move to safety if possible, call 911, and seek a medical evaluation even if injuries seem minor. Exchange information with the other driver and, when safe, document the scene with photos before vehicles are moved or towed.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Tunkhannock Township, PA
If you're involved in a crash in Tunkhannock Township, stay as calm as possible and check yourself and any passengers for injuries before doing anything else. Call 911 so police and EMS can respond and document the scene.
Even if you feel fine, consider getting checked by a medical provider. Injuries like head pain or soft tissue damage are not always obvious right away. Keep a copy of the police report and any paperwork from the tow company for your records, and follow up with your own doctor if symptoms appear in the days after the crash.
