San Antonio, TX (August 17, 2026) – A collision involving three vehicles left two children with serious injuries on Saturday afternoon, August 15, on northbound U.S. 281 near Bitters Road in San Antonio. The crash took place at approximately 3:25 p.m.

According to a preliminary police report, a Toyota Highlander was traveling north on the highway access road when its driver suffered a medical episode and lost control. The Toyota struck a sign before crossing onto the northbound highway lanes, where it hit a Dodge Ram.

The Dodge then collided with a Chevrolet Suburban and rolled several times. Officers at the scene told local media that two children were ejected from the Dodge, though that detail was not included in the preliminary report. The crash remains under investigation as officials work to determine the full circumstances.

Our hearts are with the injured, and we hope for their healing.

What Can Happen When a Driver Loses Control?

A sudden medical episode can cause a driver to lose control and create hazards for nearby traffic. When a vehicle leaves its intended lane, it may strike fixed objects or enter the path of other vehicles. A resulting chain reaction can involve several cars and increase the potential for serious injuries.

Crash reviews may examine vehicle damage, roadway markings, traffic conditions, and the sequence of impacts. Medical information may also help establish what happened to a driver before the crash. Witness accounts and available video footage can provide additional information about vehicle movements and the events leading to the collision.
