Houston, TX (July 24, 2026) – Two people died on Thursday night, July 23, after being struck by vehicles on Highway 288 near Elgin Street following a police pursuit in Houston.
According to police, officers were investigating a reported shoplifting suspect near Westheimer Road at approximately 9:15 p.m. when they attempted to stop a vehicle connected to the case. The vehicle did not stop and traveled onto the Southwest Freeway before becoming involved in a minor crash near the I-45 interchange.
Police said four female occupants left the vehicle and ran across the freeway. Two of the women were struck by passing vehicles while crossing the southbound lanes and were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two women were taken into custody. The identities and ages of those who died had not been released. The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
