Winter Haven, FL (July 6, 2026) – Two elderly people died after an early-morning house fire on Sunday, July 5, on 5th Street Northeast in Winter Haven. Emergency units were called just after 10:15 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the home.
Two other adults escaped before help arrived. Emergency units learned that two elderly people were still trapped inside the house.
The fire was contained within about five minutes, but both people inside lost their lives. Investigators said the fire appeared to start in the back of the home and was caused by an electrical fault at an outlet.
The Red Cross was contacted to assist after the fatal fire. The house fire remains under review as investigators continue checking the electrical source and related details.
