What Are Common Causes of Crashes Near Parking Lot Exits?
Parking lot exits can create hazards when drivers enter a roadway and must cross or merge with moving traffic. Limited visibility, turning movements, and differences in vehicle speed can leave little time to avoid a collision.
Drivers leaving parking lots should stop where required, check both directions, and yield to traffic already traveling on the roadway. Turning vehicles should also use signals and make sure the intended path is clear before proceeding.
Motorists traveling on the main road should remain alert for vehicles entering from parking lots and driveways. Maintaining a reasonable speed and avoiding distractions can give you more time to react when another vehicle enters the roadway.
