How Turning Vehicles Can Create Risks at Intersections
Left turns can create added risks when drivers cross lanes used by approaching traffic. Drivers making these movements need to watch for vehicles, pedestrians, and other road users before entering a travel lane.
Maintaining a safe speed can give drivers more time to react when traffic changes unexpectedly. Checking mirrors and blind spots before turning can also improve awareness. Drivers should follow traffic signals and yield when required. Utility poles and other fixed objects near roadways can increase the severity of a collision when a vehicle leaves its intended path. Careful attention during turns and lane changes can help reduce the likelihood of serious roadway injuries.
