St. Louis, MO (May 26, 2026) – Two drivers were hurt on Sunday afternoon following a head-on collision along northbound MO-367 south of Chambers Road in St. Louis County.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the roadway accident happened around 12:44 p.m. Investigators said a 2009 Chevrolet Impala traveling northbound crossed the center line and struck a southbound 2013 GMC Terrain head-on.
After the collision, the Chevrolet caught fire. The 26-year-old St. Louis man driving the Impala suffered serious injuries and was taken to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Troopers stated he was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
The GMC driver, a 57-year-old man from Black Jack, received moderate injuries and was also transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital; both vehicles sustained total damage and were removed from the roadway by a towing service. Investigators continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the fiery collision on MO-367.
We are thinking of both injured drivers and wish them a full recovery.
Why Center-Line Crossovers Frequently Cause Severe Injuries
Roadway crashes involving a vehicle crossing the center line can become especially dangerous because opposing traffic may have little time to avoid a collision. Head-on impacts usually create significant force since both vehicles are moving toward each other.
Vehicle fires may also occur after serious collisions when fuel systems or engine components are damaged. Investigators commonly review lane positioning, speed, driver attention, and roadway conditions after these crashes happen. Safety restraints can reduce the risk of severe injuries by helping occupants remain properly positioned inside the vehicle during an impact.
