Americus, GA (July 2, 2026) – Two drivers were injured in a two-vehicle crash that caused a pickup truck to overturn on Tuesday on U.S. Highway 19 in Sumter County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the collision occurred on June 30 along GA 3 (U.S. 19) near Orchard Drive. Investigators said a Ford Fusion was attempting to turn left from Orchard Drive onto southbound U.S. 19 when it collided with a southbound Ford F-250.

Troopers said the Fusion struck the pickup in the rear driver’s side door, causing the F-250 driver to lose control. The pickup overturned, crossed into the northbound lanes, and came to rest upright while blocking both northbound lanes. The Fusion came to a stop in the left southbound lane.

The driver of the F-250 was taken to a hospital in a personal vehicle, while the driver of the Fusion was transported by ambulance for medical treatment. Authorities have not released the extent of either driver’s injuries, but the crash remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.

We wish both drivers a full and speedy recovery.

How Are Left-Turn Collisions Investigated?

Collisions involving turning vehicles require investigators to determine whether each driver had the right of way and whether traffic laws were followed. Officers typically examine vehicle damage, skid marks, debris, and the final resting positions of the vehicles to reconstruct the sequence of events.

When a rollover occurs, investigators may also evaluate vehicle speed, impact angles, and roadway conditions to understand how the vehicle became unstable. Witness statements, surveillance footage, and electronic vehicle data, when available, can provide additional insight into the moments leading up to the collision.

By reviewing physical evidence alongside driver statements and medical findings, investigators work to establish an accurate timeline of the crash. This thorough process helps provide a clearer understanding of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
