Fort Wayne, IN (June 10, 2026) – Two drivers were injured following a traffic crash involving an SUV and a Chevrolet Camaro on Lafayette St in Fort Wayne on Tuesday morning, June 9. The collision occurred around 8 a.m. at the intersection of Lafayette St and E Sherwood Ter.

The wreck led to significant traffic disruptions in the area. All northbound lanes of Lafayette St were initially closed, while only one southbound lane remained open. E Sherwood Ter was also shut down in both directions near the intersection.

Initial reports indicated that one driver sustained serious injuries while the other was listed in critical condition. Later in the day, police reported that the person initially listed as critical was stable and their injuries were not considered life-threatening. The second driver’s injuries were described as moderate.

Traffic conditions returned to normal by approximately 11 a.m. It remains unclear whether anyone besides the two drivers was involved in the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation as additional details are gathered. We are thinking of those injured and wish them a full recovery.

Why Intersection Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries

Intersections are among the most common places for traffic crashes because vehicles traveling in different directions must cross paths. Drivers may be turning, stopping, accelerating, or changing lanes within a relatively small space, increasing the likelihood of conflicts.

The severity of injuries often depends on factors such as vehicle speed, angle of contact, and whether occupants are properly restrained. Side-impact and angled collisions can be especially dangerous because portions of a vehicle may provide less protection than the front or rear.

Traffic signals, roadway design, visibility, and driver attention can all influence safety at intersections. After a serious crash, investigators typically examine vehicle positions, physical evidence, witness accounts, and roadway conditions to better understand how the collision occurred. These findings can help clarify the sequence of events and identify contributing factors.
